A Christmasaurus Carol by Tom Fletcher

My review

5/5 stars

I've loved reading the Christmasaurus series to my son, so I was excited to see a new one on the shelf this Christmas, and one based on the ultimate Christmas story no less.

Watching the Christmasaurus and his friends go head-to-head with Ebeneezer Scrooge (pre-three ghost transformation) was highly entertaining for me, so I can only imagine how much my little boy loved listening to it. It was great to see the magic of A Christmas Carol captured in it's essence, but completely repackaged to give us a new version of a potentially over-done story.

The characters were as lovable and familiar as they have been for the whole series, but this book treated us to a different side to some of them that gave added depth and realism to their personas. I particularly loved watching Bob Trundle get a bit more airtime and backstory.

The messages in the story were fantastic this time around, and the author has reverted to making them more subtle again, which I really appreciated (the previous instalment came a little too close to preachiness for my liking). The author is trying to help young readers understand the concept of facing fears, holding on to magic and positivity in any form (in this case music) in the face of tough times and adversity, and supporting your friends.

Very enjoyable. Will happily read this to my kids again!

Book blurb

The Christmasaurus is back and ready to soar into a new festive magical adventure!

Have you ever heard of Ebenezer Scrooge? The most miserly, miserable Christmas-hating miser from that very famous old book? The man who is more BAH HUMBUG than HO HO HO?

Well, what if I told you that he was about to step out of HIS story and into this one? And I'm afraid he's got some grand plans . . . he wants to CANCEL CHRISTMAS!

But don't panic - William Trundle and his very best friend, the Christmasaurus, are on the case. They're determined to track down Scrooge and save Christmas from total Scrooge-ification! And they're not alone; the whole Trundle family, William's new friends Eddie and Lucy and, of course, Santa himself are here to help!

Can this Christmas crew stop Scrooge before it's too late and Christmas is BAH HUMBUGGED for good?
