A Curse For True Love (Once Upon A Broken Heart #3) by Stephanie Garber
My review
4/5 stars
This instalment of the series kept me company on the drive home from the same road trip that allowed me to listen to the second in the series (yes I binged two out of three books in one weekend). It was a very enjoyable conclusion to a story that I found very easy to get into.
The drama of picking up straight after the shock ending of The Ballad of Never After had me hooked straight away, but I admit to being a little disappointed at how the resolution of that drama played out. I ended up being more drawn in, as the book progressed, by watching all the strands of the story come together like a beautiful patchwork quilt - some clever intermingling of character arcs and an unexpected codependency for everything.
My favourite part of the book was getting to see things from Jacks' point of view. He was my favourite of the characters throughout the series, so I was happy to get more time with him.
On the flip side, my least favourite character was Apollo. There are obvious reasons, but my dislike actual comes mainly from the cartoonish nature of his villainy. I found it hard to take him seriously, and ended up just getting annoyed at how pathetic he was being.
Despite some small misgivings, I was willing myself to get to the end of the book quicker so that I could find out how things end, so I count it as a great reading experience.
Book blurb
Two villains, one girl, and a deadly battle for happily ever after.
Evangeline Fox ventured to the Magnificent North in search of her happy ending, and it seems as if she has it. She's married to a handsome prince and lives in a legendary castle. But Evangeline has no idea of the devastating price she's paid for this fairytale. She doesn't know what she has lost, and her husband is determined to make sure she never finds out . . . but first he must kill Jacks, the Prince of Hearts.
Blood will be shed, hearts will be stolen, and true love will be put to the test in A Curse for True Love, the breathlessly anticipated conclusion to the Once Upon A Broken Heart trilogy.
