Do Not Mess With The Mermaids (Wondermere #2) by Michelle Robinson
My review
4/5 stars
I can start off by confirming that I enjoyed this one more than I enjoyed the first in the series. Grace's mishaps felt more situational, rather than as a result of poor choices, and the story just felt generally more well formed than it's predecessor.
Princess Grace ends up rescuing a baby dragon and building a rather testing relationship with a visiting mermaid queen, placing the focus much more firmly on relationships than Grace's adventures. I thought this worked well and gave Grace more opportunity to shine as a character.
After wishing for more time with the dragons in the first book, the introduction of baby Dennis, who was also slightly different from the other dragons, was very enjoyable and by far mine and my boy's favourite part of this story.
Reading this one made me keen to read book #3 in a way that the first one didn't really entice me. My boy continues to enjoy the series immensely.
Book blurb
Grace has proved to the kingdom of Wondermere that when it comes to courage, determination, playing TROLL-O on unicorn-back and being a BRAVE KNIGHT, she's just as good as any boy!
But now Wondermere is expecting a VERY IMPORTANT visitor: the MERMAID QUEEN of the Outer Ocean. That means frilly dresses and best behaviour - and absolutely NO RULE BREAKING.
But when a purple DRAGON EGG falls into the moat of Wondermere castle, Grace and her sister Princess Portia find themselves babysitting a BIG SECRET.
One teeny tiny little dragon called Dennis couldn't possibly disturb the royal visit . could he?
