💭 My thoughts...
2/5 stars
First off, let's start with what I liked - this was a very summery book with a lovely setting and a sweet story. The characters were decent enough, with Patsy and Irene being my absolute favourites with their banter and their funny older lady vibes. I also enjoyed the small twist in the plot about half way / two-thirds of the way through.
Now, on to what caused the 2 star rating... The main issue for me was the writing style. It all felt too polite and quite stilted at times. I struggled to get past the fact that it didn't seem to have a natural flow to it, the descriptions were full of unnecessary exposition that tripped me up in several places.
I also struggled with the chemistry, or lackthereof, between the main characters. The author wrote about the chemistry itself quite a lot, which only served to draw my attention to the fact that I wasn't really feeling any in the pages. The same thing happened with the main character's focus on her social media - it definitely felt like it was written from research rather than from personal experience.
All in all, it was sweet but there were too many elements of it that felt forced to me that prevented me from fully enjoying it.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
