The Let Them Theory by Mel & Sawyer Robbins

My review

4/5 stars

Mel Robbins takes her "Let Them" theory - the idea that if you are not in control of something, you should let it occur how it will and focus on how you react to it to minimise it's impact on you - and applies it to 8 key areas of life to give practical advice on how it can help you get the life you want for yourself.

As with all of Mel Robbins' work, I found this a very easy audiobook to listen to. She narrated it herself, and her naturally pally and conversational tone made everything feel so much more accessible and far less scary to conceptualise. She has a natural warmth about her, and it's easy to believe that she genuinely wants to help improve the lives of others with her work.

I found it interesting to hear her real-life anecdotes - theories are just that and I'm someone who needs to be able to see how something could work in a normal day-to-day life to be able to understand it, so her willingness to open up about the personal situations in which she's found this useful was immensely helpful.

The book was very thought provoking, and at times even triggering in its nature, as it forces you to think about all the ways in which you bend yourself out of shape and why you do that instead of just letting things be. It's also got a very empowering tone, and the author makes it sound very straightforward (though not always easy) to get into a different headspace and live a life of less stress and worry. I can see why people refer to this book as life-changing.
