The Love Of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood

My review

4/5 stars

The concept of this book was really fun, and something you don't see everyday. The premise of dying and then being given a deal that you can get your life back IF you convince the right person to kiss you in 10 days - it had me entertained and thinking throughout the book.

The mix of humour, pathos, and charm captivated me from start to finish. Delphie was a relatable and endearing character, but I actually found myself more drawn to the characters around her - in particular Cooper, Merritt and Mr Yoon.

I enjoyed the romance element of the story but actually found it a little too predictable for me to be fully invested in it's ending. What caught my attention in this book is how Delphie used her second chance at life to build a family around herself, and explore all the things she'd been runing scared from before she choked on the burger. It was a beautiful exploration of what it really means to be alive that I wasn't expecting to find and in a light and fluffy romcom.

This book combines romance, sci-fi, fantasy and makes you think about life, death and the universe on top. I would recommend that anyone read it, for the entertainment and the mental stimulation it provides.

Book blurb

If she wasn’t dead already, Delphie would be dying of embarrassment. She’s entered the afterlife wearing the sort of pyjamas you don’t want anyone to see and finds herself face-to-face with the most handsome man she’s ever encountered. And he’s smiling at her.

As they start to chat, everything else becomes background noise – until someone comes running out of a door, yelling something about a huge mistake, and sends the dreamy stranger back down to earth.

In a twist of fate, Delphie is offered a deal in which she can return to her previous life and reconnect with the mysterious man she’s sure is her soulmate.

The challenge? She only has ten days to find him.

Ten days to make him fall for her.

Oh, and he has no recollection of them ever having met…
